Milosh Perovitch Travel Grant

Milosh Perovitch was a Yugoslav physician who spent several years of his academic career in the Department of Radiology at Johns Hopkins Medical Institution in the 1960’s and 1970′s. Upon his death in 2006, he made a bequest to the JHMI Neuroradiology Division who have decided, in view of Dr. Perovitch’s close ties to Europe, to offer reverse sabbaticals to Europeans willing to visit Johns Hopkins for a period one to two months. The goal of the visit will be to exchange knowledge and develop collaborations. The stipend would be used to defray the visitors’ expenses for the month as a travel grant. Expenses over the allotted amount ($12,500) would have to be covered by the grantee.

The Division of Neuroradiology is now accepting applications for a visit for calendar year 2011. The application process is a 1-2 page letter addressed to David M. Yousem, Division Director, detailing:

Proposed material (educational, clinical, research) to be exchanged with Johns Hopkins Faculty and fellows and residents in the area of neuroradiology
If appropriate, proposed technique (interventional or otherwise) which could be taught/shared
Months of availability in 2011 and length of stay requested (up to one month)
Contact information for one professional reference

Please include a CV and any reprints or PDF files appropriate for us to evaluate the proposal.

Decisions will be made based on merit and a vote of the JHMI Neuroradiology faculty.

Deadline for receipt of application for 2011 is September 30, 2010. Decisions will be made by November 30, 2010.

One Neuroradiology Fellow Position Open for 2011 at UNC

The Neuroradiology division in the UNC Department of Radiology comprises five diagnostic attending neuroradiologists, three fellows and three associated neurointerventional specialists from the Division of Interventional Neuroradiology. We have five clinical 1.5T and one 3.0T MR units and a second 3.0T unit to be operational October 2010 in the vecinity of the Emergency Department. Our upcoming dedicated outpatient facility (to open January 2011) will house two MR units and one CT scanner.

We also currently have both a dedicated full-body 3.0T in our research facilities. There are seven CT scanners (including a dual source and a 128-slice). A flat plate CT “Xoran” scanner for ENT work is also in operation. We have two state-of-art, biplane angiographic units in a dedicated Neurovascular suite, as well as access to five additional angiographic rooms and one CT scanner in the general Vascular/Interventional section. A dedicated MR spectroscopist also enhances our research and clinical capabilities. Two PET CT scanners complement our equipment and cyclotron will be operating by the end of 2010.

The Neuroradiology division performs close to 15,000 CT studies, 15,000 MRI studies, 500-600 diagnostic angiograms, 150 neurointerventional cases, and over 200 spinal invasive procedures per year.
